IONA Commends Vibrant Apache CXF Community
Apache CXF, one of the top ten Java software projects, graduates from the Apache Software Foundation incubator

IONA® Technologies (NASDAQ: IONA), a world leader in distributed service-oriented architecture (SOA) infrastructure solutions for performance-demanding IT environments, commends the Apache CXF community on the graduation of CXF from incubator to full project status at the Apache Software Foundation.

With over 60,000 downloads since July 2007, CXF reflects the growth in popularity of Open Source software and its broad appeal to Java developers as the easiest environment for the creation of Web services. Dan Kulp, Principal Engineer at IONA, is the PMC (Project Management Committee) Chair of Apache CXF and has contributed significantly to the development of Apache CXF and the fostering of a vibrant community. “This is a milestone achievement for the CXF community,” said Dan Kulp. “There are a diverse number of project committers across the community that have all contributed significantly to the project’s graduation. The collaborative development effort has resulted in a successful Open Source project with a high level of product innovation.”

“The graduation of CXF to full project status is evidence of the ubiquity of CXF and the diverse and growing community that has contributed to its success,” said Larry Alston, Vice President and General Manager, Open Source, IONA Technologies. “A robust and innovative solution developed by a thriving community base, coupled with enterprise support and services represents a compelling Open Source deployment option for enterprise customers. I look forward to seeing the Apache CXF community continue to grow and develop with full project status and support from the Apache Software Foundation.”

IONA’s FUSE™ Services Framework is an enterprise release of Apache CXF and provides a fully tested and supported Open Source services framework for enterprise deployment. Apache CXF represents the merger of IONA’s original Celtix™ Open Source ESB, hosted at the ObjectWeb community, and XFire from Codehaus. It became CXF upon the merger of Celtix and XFire and the movement of the project to the Apache Software Foundation in August 2006.

Further information on IONA FUSE is available at the FUSE community Web site at http://open.iona.com. The site also offers discussion forums, wikis, tutorials, sample applications and documentation designed to help users at all stages of their FUSE adoption.
