Cloud Computing, in its current incarnation, falls short on its promise to make computing as a whole as simple as plugging an application into a utility service, says Kirill Sheynkman, Founder & CEO of Elastra Corporation. Sheynkman will be giving a session on Elastic Computing vs. Cloud Computing at SYS-CON's 'Cloud Computing Expo' (November 20-21, 2008) - a brand new adjunct to the 4th International Virtualization Conference & Expo being held at The Fairmont Hotel in San Jose, CA.
"The 'cloud' model initially has focused on making the hardware layer consumable as on-demand compute and storage capacity," Sheynkman explains.
"This is an important first step," he continues, "but for companies to harness the power of the cloud, complete application infrastructure needs to be easily configured, deployed, dynamically-scaled and managed in these virtualized hardware environments."
According to Sheynkman, Elastic Computing enhances the cloud computing model by allowing companies to efficiently and cost-effectively configure, deploy and managing clustered, highly-scalable applications in cloud computing environments.
In his November Cloud Computing Summit session, "Elastic Computing vs. Cloud Computing: What's the Difference and When Do You Use Them?" he will discuss in greater detail how these models work in concert and how to gain business value from them.
Sheynkman was cofounder and CEO of two successful startups before Elastra: Stanford Technology Group acquired by Informix/IBM in 1995 and Plumtree Software acquired in 2005 by BEA. Between startups, he was EIR at Sequoia Capital.
At the Cloud Computing Expo, he will be speaking alongside other top Cloud luminaries and ecosystem participants, including:
Mike Eaton, CEO, Cloudworks
Willy Chiu, VP of High Performance on Demand Solutions, IBM
Lars Leckie, Principal, Hummer Winblad Venture Partners
