Lockheed Martin Selects GT Software's Ivory for Mainframe Service-Enablement
Ivory to Enable The Migration Of Mainframe Data to SAP Environment Within SOA Infrastructure

Digg This!

GT Software (www.gtsoftware.com) today announced that Lockheed Martin has selected the company’s Ivory solution to create z/OS-based Web services, and migrate mainframe data to the company’s next generation of applications. A leading global provider of rapid service oriented architecture (SOA) development solutions that leverage mainframe resources, GT Software’s Ivory Service Architect will enable Lockheed Martin to quickly deliver applications from various platforms, and migrate mainframe resources to SAP, all without requiring any coding.

Companies around the world use Ivory Service Architect to modernize their legacy mainframe applications while moving to new environments such as SOA. The flagship product of GT Software, Ivory Service Architect consists of Ivory Studio, a graphical modeling environment; Ivory Server, a high-performance SOAP processor with runtime service orchestration; and Ivory Server for Batch.

Last year, Lockheed Martin, a $41.9 Billion organization with a diverse mainframe portfolio, moved its SOA infrastructure into production, with a committed focus on SOA as an architectural framework and philosophy. They needed a tool that would work across a large number of mainframe environments. Ivory enables Lockheed Martin to optimize the use of existing assets, deliver applications and technical solutions to internal customers very quickly, and can be implemented in a non-intrusive fashion.

Over the past 40 years, Lockheed Martin has grown significantly, resulting in a large and diverse portfolio of mainframe equipment and management. Ivory Service Architect was designed precisely for that purpose, and was a natural fit for this initiative, said Ivory person.

Migrating to new solutions such as SAP will be phased in over a period of time, and it is important for Lockheed Martin to continue to have access to all of their mainframe based resources in the meantime. “They simply can’t stop work to get things sorted out, and using Ivory, they won’t have to,” commented Rob Morris, Chief Strategy Officer at GT Software. “Ivory has the ability to snap into an existing SOA environment and infrastructure, covering a broad range of mainframe technologies and environments. In fact, it supports deployment of mainframe-based Web services across the widest range of platforms, giving Lockheed Martin and other organizations broad flexibility in where they choose to house SOA-related workload.”

No other solution on the market today offers such a variety of options for mainframe SOA. Without requiring any changes to the service definition, Ivory Service Architect supports the deployment of mainframe-based Web services across z/VSE, z/OS, CICS/TS, CICS, IMS, Windows, Wintel, UNIX, and Linux. Key benefits of this broader platform support include the ability to shift SOA-related workload off the mainframe, as well as the ability to leverage new mainframe MIPS-reducing hardware such as zAAP processors.
