XQuery 1.0 Reaches Official Recommendation Status with W3C

This highly anticipated standard is predicted by many to be on course for the same kind of popularity - for querying XML documents - that SQL enjoys for querying relational databases. It is gaining traction, with 40 installations currently in play and the big database vendors turning their databases into relational/XML hybrids. One well supported, robust commercial XQuery implementation for XML is DataDirect's XQuery. "XQuery handles even large XML files (upwards of 20+GB)," notes Jonathan Robie (pictured), XQuery Technology Lead at DataDirect Technologies, "It also handles relational database and more," he adds. Robie is a W3C XQuery Working Group Member and co-editor of the XQuery 1.0 Standard. He writes regularly for SOAWorld Magazine, and his most recent article was on "Complete Data Integration Through XQuery."
