It started the OSP in September with a variety of web protocols like SOAP that it wanted broadly used and tucked its Sender ID e-mail authentication protocol under its umbrella last week. The ECMA Office XML is already covered by a covenant from Microsoft not to sue. Now developers have both a belt and suspenders. Microsoft says it's doing it because the ECMA Technical Committee created the Final Draft of the Office Open XML v1.0 formats and it wanted "to address any questions people may have with respect to their ability to use our patent rights that are necessary to implement ECMA Office Open XML. We don't want there to be any open issues with respect to access to necessary Microsoft patent claims." XML JOURNAL LATEST STORIES . . .
