Eracent is Major Contributor to ISO/IEC 19770-2 IT Standard Development

Creating XML Schema for ISO/IEC 19770-2

Eracent has been given a mission to create the XML schema definition for ISO/IEC 19770-2 standard draft. The ISO/IEC 19770-2 standard will define the asset tags for software Configuration items. The asset tags are files in xml format. The definition of the xml tags and values are the core of the standard, but it also needs the formal xml schema definition to avoid any confusion and to be able to validate the tags.

Eracent, the global leader in large Enterprise Software Asset Management (SAM) tools is supported by an impressive team of software development experts. Krzysztof (Chris) Baczkiewicz, the IT Standards Support Manager at Eracent leads the group of Eracent experts making these contributions to the ISO/IEC IT Standards Project.

According to Steve Klos, the Convener of the ISO group, “through Chris’s leadership, Eracent has already made significant contributions to the development of the draft ISO/IEC Standard 19770-2:  Software TAG.  Eracent’s and Chris’s efforts thus far on the development of a schema definition will certainly help the Software Asset Management industry as a whole.”

The XML schema definition is based on the Software Asset Tag identity elements definition. Creation of the latter is also the responsibility of the subcommittee led by Baczkiewicz. “This definition needs a lot of work as it must be very precise and eliminate all ambiguities,” said Baczkiewicz, “Fortunately we have valuable experts in the subcommittee and I am looking forward to working with them.”

The subcommittee consists of volunteer practitioners and experts who participate in the development of this Standard and provide input to this particular part of the draft.  Eracent has delegated Marcin Jaworski, Database and Web Software Developer to provide his expertise on the correctness and usability of the XML schema. This will assure standard’s value to practitioners.
