Lippincott Williams & Wilkin (LWW), a leading publisher of medical-related texts, has chosen XyEnterprise to automate its publishing operations. Lippincott will make use of the company's XML Professional Publisher (XPP) to deliver a broad range of content distributed throughout drug guides, medical journals, nursing journals, medical textbooks and medical PDA (personal digital assistant) software.
The partnership is part of Lippincott's initiative to bring personalized content to medical and nursing professionals. With XPP, increased revenue can be realized, the company says.
XPP is a standards-based tool implemented in automated publishing. XPP batch and interactive interfaces are unique to the XML publishing space. The interfaces enable LWW's enterprise clients to process and transform XML and other structured content into formats, like PDF and print, which can be distributed and sold.
Richard Pasewark, vice president of sales and marketing at XyEnterprise, commented, "XPP's versatility and automated features enable organizations like LWW to support new business models for publishing, greatly enhancing their full-service capabilities."
Since content can be assimilated, formatted, and published very quickly with XML, LWW will be able to distribute the vast reserves of content. Its customers benefit by having more timely information, which is critical, and perhaps more so in the medical field, to patient health.
Larry Bryant, director of content management processes, Electronic Strategy and Product Development for LWW, stated: "Our view of publishing has moved from product-centric to content-centric. XPP will allow us to easily meet our production goals for our established publications and will enable us to produce a wider variety of custom publications for the medical and nursing fields."
