Other reasons appear to be the number of pre-trial motions and the difficulty the defense has had in getting the reportedly 400-page file on the custody case over Reiser's two little kids out of Juvenile Court. His lawyer finally got it after the murder trial judge intervened.
Reiser of course is charged with murdering his estranged Russian-born wife a year ago September during some nasty unfinished divorce proceedings that gave her custody of the children.
Her body has never been found but the cops have circumstantial evidence like blood traces tying him to her disappearance.
The children, who the prosecution alleges were in the house when their mother was killed, were whisked away to Russia by their maternal grandmother after the seven-year-old boy testified at his father's preliminary hearing. They remain there and it's unclear whether they will return to the states for the trial.
