Breaking News: ISO Fails To Ratify Open XML

France voted against, Hungary abstained

Office Open XML (has not been ratified as a standard by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). An official ISO announcement is expected shortly.

It was a close call: 74% of ISO countries voted to support Open XML as a standard. But for a standard to be ratified, you need 75%. France voted against, Hungary abstained.

Other countries who voted against were Brazil, China, Denmark, India, Ireland and New Zealand.

Open XML (commonly referred to as OOXML or Office Open XML) is an XML-based file format specification for electronic documents such as memos, reports, books, spreadsheets, charts, presentations and word processing documents.
