Media Excel Releases HERO VS, Transforming OTT Multi-Screen Services on The Cloud

Media Excel, the leading innovator of adaptive bitrate, multi-device transcoding standard for multi-screen video delivery, announces the general release of their latest development, HERO VS at IBC in Amsterdam (booth #14.241). HERO VS is a software-only virtual appliance based on Media Excel’s award winning video transcoding product line.

Even though cloud-based VoD transcoding services have been around for a few years already, HERO VS is the only platform that delivers Live and VoD transcoding in the cloud. The unique range of input options that HERO VS offers allows for the ingestion of high-quality, packet-loss-free source feeds for both live and VoD use cases. The elasticity of the cloud, combined with the inherited flexibility of Media Excel’s product offerings, provides unmatched scalability to organizations with dynamic and/or unpredictable demand pattern. HERO VS delivers seamless Live and VoD transcoding services within a private or public cloud architecture and scales dynamically based on the available resources and the demand pattern.

HERO VS includes all the valuable features of the HERO product line that is installed on standalone X86 servers. HERO VS supports Adaptive bitrate technology like HLS, Smooth and even MPEG-DASH. It also supports ad insertion, graphic overlays, encryption/DRM and CDN Publishing. Further HERO VS scales automatically based on available CPU and Memory resources. This allows for rapid deployment of transcoding services on demand for both file and live transcoding. HERO VS integrates seamlessly with NMS and CMS platforms through popular integration hooks such as SNMP, HTTP, SOAP and XML. Also, HERO VS is fully compatible with HMS, Media Excel’s award-wining management platform and can also be deployed in a distributed, geographically-dispersed architecture in order to better utilize network resources.

HERO VS has already been deployed with major Delivery Networks and Content Aggregators in USA and Europe and has performed exceptionally in coping with the dynamic business nature of those organizations. Those types of organizations generally face the most unpredictable demand patterns and either they over-estimate their needs resulting in a sizable CAPEX investment with equipment that soon becomes obsolete, or they under-estimate their needs and have to turn down business. HERO VS bridges this uncertainty gap in terms of both the volume and the nature (Live or VoD) of the demand and helps closely align revenue and OPEX flows.

When talking IoT we often focus on the devices, the sensors, the hardware itself. The new smart appliances, the new smart or self-driving cars (which are amalgamations of many ‘things'). When we are looking at the world of IoT, we should take a step back, look at the big picture. What value are these devices providing. IoT is not about the devices, its about the data consumed and generated. The devices are tools, mechanisms, conduits. This paper discusses the considerations when dealing with the...
