Dylan Schiemann, co-creator of the Dojo Toolkit, will present a talk on 'Engaging Interfaces with Ajax and Comet' at the Real-World Ajax Seminar in New York on June 5. Dylan is now with Renkoo, a social networking site that relies on the "Comet" approach to AJAX development. Comet is a term coined by Alex Russell, who was also recently interviewed on SYS-CON.TV. The Comet approach can be thought of as "long-lived HTTP" or "push" Ajax. It delivers data to open clients, not only in response to user input. Schiemann discusses this in the interview as he offers a preview to his Real-World Ajax Seminar presentation.

COMET, while just like AJAX; a coined term for older technologies, is very useful. In Salesboom.com on demand CRM and ERP applications you can set up your workflow engine to produce COMET-like alerts while using the application without asking the server for it. Basically an AJAX-style pop-up window comes up with the alert if the user has an established connection with the server. If the user is not logged on, then the messages will appear the next time the user logs son. |

About the secondary tag line for the Dylan Scheimann story, which reads - It's "discusses" not "discusess" - not sure what the latter would be, perhaps some track-and-field dominatrix ;) |
