Billboard Mistress Upstages Larry Ellison

Oracle CEO doesn’t like to be overshadowed

Oracle News on Ulitzer

Oracle’s co-president Chuck Phillips and his ex-girlfriend YaVaughnie Wilkins overshadowed Oracle’s hard-won victory over the European Commission and its pending $7.4 billion acquisition of Sun Microsystems last week after Ms. Wilkins plastered snuggly “soul mates forever” pictures of the two of them on billboards in Times Square in New York (where Phillips maintains a place), Atlanta (where his wife and son live) and San Francisco (near Oracle and the $11 million house that he bought for the now-evicted or at least departed mistress).

Ms. Wilkens also put up a web site with more of the treacly same including notes of apology and messages like “hang in there with me…we’ll be together soon” that came with flowers he sent her over the years.

Seems Mr. Phillips has been living a double life and that Ms. Wilkens may not have know for the last, oh, six odd years that Mr. Phillips wasn’t divorced from the wife he evidently reconciled with last year before he took her – the wife that is – to a ceremony at the Waldorf Astoria in New York in December where he reportedly praised her – the wife – to the skies as his inspiration when he accepted the Dwight D. Eisenhower Global Innovation Award.

It may also come as a surprise to their West Coast friends and their interior decorator since they have been openly living together for years. As for YaVa’s motive, well, maybe it was spite, maybe to lure him back, maybe to embarrass Karen – the wife – into kicking him out.

Now, your average observer may think that since Oracle CEO Larry Ellison has done more than his fair share of wenching the reaction is just gonna be a men’s club smirk. Others, however, who have been there, claim Mr. Phillips is ultimately toast. Not today, not tomorrow, but toast.

Larry doesn’t like to be overshadowed; and Phillips, who – from Larry’s point-of-view – wasn’t able to control his women, looks a tad more – um – unstable – not to mention silly (see pictures) – than your everyday philanderer.

Larry has historically been open-minded about the dalliances of his lieutenants, as long as they kept them quiet and didn’t do anything that would make them (or him) look stupid, weak or crazy – the true capital crimes under Larry’s Law.

Anyway Phillips was able to reason with, threaten or buy off YaVaughie after she let the cat out of the bag and get her to take down the compromising charlesphillipsandyavaughniewilkins.com web site and billboards but not before he had to give out a confessional statement saying, “I had an 8-½-year serious relationship with YaVaughnie Wilkins. My divorce proceeding began in 2008. The relationship with Ms. Wilkins has since ended and we both wish each other well.”

Phillips is also a member of Barack Obama’s Economic Recovery Advisory Board.

IoT & Smart Cities Stories
While the focus and objectives of IoT initiatives are many and diverse, they all share a few common attributes, and one of those is the network. Commonly, that network includes the Internet, over which there isn't any real control for performance and availability. Or is there? The current state of the art for Big Data analytics, as applied to network telemetry, offers new opportunities for improving and assuring operational integrity. In his session at @ThingsExpo, Jim Frey, Vice President of S...

In this Power Panel at @ThingsExpo, moderated by Conference Chair Roger Strukhoff, panelists discussed what things are the most important, which will have the most profound e...
The Jevons Paradox suggests that when technological advances increase efficiency of a resource, it results in an overall increase in consumption. Writing on the increased use of coal as a result of technological improvements, 19th-century economist William Stanley Jevons found that these improvements led to the development of new ways to utilize coal. In his session at 19th Cloud Expo, Mark Thiele, Chief Strategy Officer for Apcera, compared the Jevons Paradox to modern-day enterprise IT, examin...
